INTRODUCTION :

On this trip we combine an amazing Festival in Goroka, giving us VIP access to photograph many tribes from the Highlands in a special and unforgettable event. We then proceed to the villages in the Tribal highlands and shoot at their home area with tribes like the Asaro Mudmen, the Insect hunters, the Skeleton Tribal boys and many more. We then proceed to Mt Hagen to photograph the colorful Hagen tribes and end the trip with a 4-day extension in the high mountains to shoot the Bird of Paradise and many other bird species.

EXPERIENCE:

No experience needed, bring a good portrait lens (50 mm, 85 mm, 70-200, etc) a decent wide-angle and a bird photography lens. Easy walking – ALMOST NO DRIVING (total distance is 7 hours) + 30 min or 60 min for birding locations.

EXPEDITION’S FIRST DAY: 

Flight to manila, Connecting flight to Port Moresby.

EXPEDITION’S SECOND DAY: 

Port Moresby to Goroka flight – Meet at Goroka airport and transfer to the Lodge. Afternoon you will do Goroka town tour. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Overnight at local lodge.

EXPEDITION’S THIRD DAY: 

Children and Agriculture Show. After Breakfast depart for Festival Ground. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Overnight at local lodge.

EXPEDITION’S FOURTH DAY:

Full Day at the Showground Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the showground. Spend the day at Goroka show, a marvelous opportunity to gain an overview of PNG cultural diversity. Later transfer back to the hotel. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Overnight at local lodge.

EXPEDITION’S FIFTH DAY:  Full Day at the Showground. After Breakfast departs for Festival Ground. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Overnight at local lodge.

EXPEDITION’S SIXTH DAY:  Gurupoka Village Tribe Full day village tour in Gurupoka – includes cultural activities, village life study, short/soft trekking. Overnight in the Asaro village. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S SEVENTH DAY:  Asaro Mudmen Full day village tour in Akameku – includes cultural activities, village life study, short/soft trekking. Overnight near the village. Includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S EIGHTH DAY:  Transfer to Kundiawa After breakfast depart for Kundiawa. You will visit Midima village. Pack lunch or you will lunch along the way to Kundiawa. Afternoon you will do Village life study. Overnight near the village. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S NINTH DAY:  Full day in the village. You will see 2 to 3 different cultural activities, include Skeleton/Ghost dance, Simbu women cultural/traditional dance and continue village life experience. Overnight in the village. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S TENTH DAY:  Mount Hagen Tribes After breakfast depart for Mt Hagen. 2 hours by vehicle. Overnight in Whagi village. Afternoon you will do village life experience. Includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S ELEVENTH DAY:  Full day shooting tribes Full day with eight different scenes in a tribal village with many models, widow outfit, warriors and colorful dress.

EXPEDITION’S TWELFTH DAY:  Bird of Paradise Photo study Today we transfer to higher altitude for our Birding part of the trip. We leave very early to see the Bird of paradise species at the hotel compound. Overnight at Mt Hagen Mountain Lodge. Includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

EXPEDITION’S THIRTEENTH DAY:  Bird of Paradise Photo study Full day trip of locating different Bird Of Paradise species around the mountain areas.

EXPEDITION’S FIFTEENTH DAY:  Morning locating different Bird Of Paradise species around the mountain areas if time allows, transfer to the Mount Hagen airport for our flight to Port Morseby.

EXPEDITION’S SIXTEENTH DAY:  Flight Port Morosely to Manila

INTERNATIONAL AIR TO AND FROM PAPUA NEW GUINEA IS ADDITIONAL: Use frequent flyer miles or purchase air tickets through the airline or agent of your choice. Airlines and air travel consolidators can advise on pre and post trips in the South Pacific, trip/cancellation insurance, and can save you money and hassle in your travel plans. Please, please honor your investment in a PNG excursion by obtaining trip/cancellation insurance and by having a minimum of two or three nights in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore on a stopover to recover from jet lag.

INSURANCE:  It is very strongly recommended clients purchase an all-inclusive travel insurance for luggage, medical expenses, and trip cancellation. This will help ensure a more carefree vacation, as unexpected and last minute cancellations are surprisingly frequent. In recent years there have been many more unexpected cancellations. PASSPORT & VISA INFORMATION:  Clients must have a passport valid through their return date to the U.S. In addition to a P.N.G. visa, an Australian visa is also required. Detailed pre-trip information will be sent with receipt of trip deposit.

HEALTH INFORMATION:  No vaccinations are currently required, but anti-malarial medication is highly recommended. Advice must come from your doctor only. Clients with diet, allergy, sight, hearing, weight and other health factors must make written note of that with their reservation. Many clients over 70, even 80, have enjoyed this trip, but all over 70 must have doctor’s certification they are fit to travel to such a destination. We regret special meal requests cannot be guaranteed.
