It is common to find crocodiles featured in traditions, rituals, beliefs, and legends of the people and have an integral role in their culture and identity.
The lively event that is hosted on the Sepik River shores attracts various tribes to participate and showcase their rich culture. Performers at the annual event arrive in traditional costumes and showcase their cultural highlights at the showground. The costumes have various decorations such as feathers, seashells, Bilas, and necklaces made from crocodile teeth. As various groups sing and dance, the showground is filled with Kundu beats, exuberant colors, painted faces, and over the top traditional attire. Tourists are allowed to join the dancing groups and get a full experience of the festival.
