Kitava Island

The island’s 2,200 residents, spread among three villages, are subsistence farmers and fishermen who live, without electricity or other modern conveniences, in thatch-roofed huts fashioned with materials from the lush equatorial forest. Kitava is one of the Trobriand Islands.
